MM.XXVIObsidian dreams.
Descending into the threshold between lucid dreaming and false awakening, this dark, monochromatic essay transforms familiar spaces into scenes we have unlearned to see and navigate. The viewer is drawn into an uncompromising world that refuses to let go.
Inspired by the late-1960s Japanese Provoke manifesto—which emphasised photography’s power to provoke thought and forge "a new language and new meanings"—and the work of photographers such as Kikuji Kawada, Kazuo Kitai, Daidō Moriyama, and especially Sakiko Nomura, this series functions as experiment, homage, and quest. It is a conscious endeavour to carry forward a photographic practice that moves far beyond mere observation.
“If you don’t search for the things that you cannot see, they don’t become visible.”
“All that we see or seem is but a dream within a dream.”
